UCAS to use Plagiarism Software

UCAS has decided to use plagiarism software on all applications for 2008 entry.

Each applicant's personal statement will be subject to analysis by the software and any suspected will be highlighted to the applicant, and also to their universities. It will be up to the individual institutions to decide on any action to be taken.

This decision comes as a result of a UCAS trial during last year's application cycle where a number of personal statements were found to contain chunks of text lifted directly from 'successful personal statements' available at a number of advisory websites.
